In the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh/Old Testament), Jonah is a prophet of the northern kingdom of Israel in about the 8th century BCE. He is the central figure of the Book of Jonah, in which he is called upon by God to travel to Nineveh and warn its residents of impending divine wrath. Jonah doubts god, and decides to disobey this order.
As a scientist, I want my son to have an inherent doubt in everything he encounters. Doubt helps us challenge our expectations and beliefs and allows us to grow.
Doubt isn't always easy. Jonah rerouted his ship to the city of Tarshish and was caught in a storm. His ship's crew casts him overboard, whereupon he was swallowed by a giant fish. Three days later, after Jonah agrees to go to Nineveh, the fish vomits him out onto the shore.
Jonah was diagnosed as gestational diabetic baby. That means he could have been a big boy, with difficulties coming out!
Jonah's delivery came in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone wore masks, even mom!
Jonah's heartbeat started to get irregular (decelerations) with contractions. 14 hours after breaking water, at 7 cm dilation, the doctor's made the call.
Jonah was born via c-section at 7:06 am on Saturday 4/25/2020. He was 6lbs10oz and had an APGAR of 9. Those are some pretty legit numbers.
